Green Ring - STACC Winter meeting

Many thanks to the Hertfordshire highway engineers for coming along to the STACC winter meeting last Thursday.  It was great to have their overview of the Green Ring, and some background information.  There has been a lot of painstaking study, data gathering and investigation of options.

The engineers were very open to our questions.  They are not always able to make what they would consider the best choice and have to be pragmatic.  For example, the dropping of the scheme to convert the Abbey Line to a light railway meant that for several reasons (land ownership, railway safety rules) the option to build a cycle / walking route alongside the Abbey Line is now not possible.

The meeting was also an opportunity to preview the Green Ring display prepared for the exhibition next week:

Residents and interest groups are invited to come along to an exhibition and consultation event on the proposed St Albans Green Ring cycling and walking route. The exhibition will inform the current consultation
The exhibition will be held at the District Council’s offices in St Albans on
Monday 16 December (noon - 5pm) and on

Wednesday 18 December (4pm - 7pm).

This consultation period has been extended until Friday 20 December 2013 to include the exhibition dates.
Officers from St Albans City and District Council and Hertfordshire County Council will be on hand to answer questions from members of the public.
