Alban Way Ramp to Station

Sneak Preview - 31/8/12

Some of you will be watching the progress of the zig-zag ramp from Albans Way to the St Albans City Station (via the Linden Homes residential development on the former station car park), as it is possible to get a view through the site fence. Others may not be aware of what is happening.

The ramp was due to open before the end of August, but this clearly will not be met. But never mind it is well worth waiting for as it appears to be of very high quality.
The traffic surface has a generous width & an easy gradient - suitable for electric mobility scooters as well as cyclists and pedestrians. It takes in effect three hairpin bends to traverse the slope.
Next to the traffic surface there are gravelled water run-off spaces and beyond these substantial bank retaining walls.

Current state

The traffic surface has its top coat of tarmac complete - very smooth, meeting up with the surface of the Alban Way - not so smooth.
However as far as the photo shows there remains quite a bit of work to do on the surrounding structure.
It is not possible to see whether works at the top of the slope are any where near ready.

History

STACC got involved with this many years ago. (Notes will be added here)
The developer, Linden Homes were keen for us to be involved (in fact we had our own private preview of the plans) & they listened to all we had to say.
I would say that the ramp's structure meets all our requirements.
However there were one or two associated issues which we mentioned at that earlier meeting, and since, which we need to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. (I will not publish these yet.)
